I find it interesting how easily little issues arise and result in soft tissue injury. Most people experience the common things of stiff necks and the odd joint pain that passes with time. Soft tissue issues may build up over time and maintain stresses on the body resulting in chronic pain. One example is recurrent morning pain and discomfort which will generally require treatment if you are to overcome it.
Morning pain is often the result of knots or trigger points. These are sections of myofascial/muscle tissue that have ‘locked short’ usually as a result of overwork and/or injury. The really interesting thing is that the painful area is often not at the site of the cause of the problem and although massage will ease the pain, it will generally reoccur later and most often the next morning. The cause is commonly a knot in the antagonist of the sore muscle and often this locked tissue is not noticeably painful until massaged. Once the trigger point is identified and treated the morning pain will no longer occur. In the case of long term pain, other imbalances may have developed and the specific cause may not be so easily identified but as changes develop from the treatment it becomes easier to identify the real cause and to remove it with further treatment.
